Las Iguanas Cardiff- Restaurant Review

Value for money: Good, worth it for a special occasion
Service: Very good
Décor: rustic with a modern twist
Taste: Very good, let down by dessert

This weekend was my 2nd anniversary with my boyfriend. He loves food just as much as I do, so what better way to celebrate than go out for dinner?
We often cook Mexican such as fajitas, enchiladas and chilli at home so when we heard about Las Iguanas we couldn't wait to check out the menu. Being vegetarians it is important to check the menu before a visit. I went on their website and was very impressed they had a separate vegetarian and vegan menu.

We arrived at 6:45 and were quickly seated to our reserved table. We were glad we booked as it was very busy and we watched many groups be turned away.
We had a table for two and despite being next to the entrance it was quite enough we could hear each other but also loud enough we couldn't hear other people's conversations.

We were offered the separate vegetarian (as well as vegan and gluten free) menu, which for vegetarians is very exciting. We are normally searching for the 'V' indicator. To feel like we could have anything from the menu was quite a treat.

A polite but slightly quiet waitress came promptly to take our drinks order. We were told there was a two-for-one on cocktails before 7:30 so chose the 'mango collins.' This was a mix of absolut mago vodka, triple sec, orange juice and lemonade. Yummy!

We shared nachos to start, with refried beans on the side. They were delicious, with chunky guacamole, salsa, sour cream and plenty of melted cheese. I would definitely recommend getting the refried beans as an optional extra.

We have a habit of picking the same meal, we both had the vegetarian enchilada for a main. It was amazing! It was filled with butternut squash, one of my all time favourites, as well as red peppers, spinach and cheese. It was served in a tomato sauce on a bed of rice and refried beans. It wasn't particularly spicy but that was ok for me.

We shared churros for dessert. This is what let the meal down. We were not impressed! We expected a sweet donut-like churro coated in sugar and cinnamon. What actually came was bland and oily with an uneven distribution of cinnamon. We ordered six to share and ate two between the two of us.

Overall we were very impressed. Great service, yummy food and lively atmosphere made a very enjoyable evening.
We can't wait to get back and explore more of the menu.
Do you have any experiences of Las Iguanas?
Can you recommend any other Mexican restaurants?

Until next time,

Emily
